- Installation Instructions for Macintosh(R) and Windows(R)

- Macintosh or Power Macintosh(R)
- To play The Story of Creation, simply insert the CD-ROM disc into your
- CD-ROM drive. Double-click the icon labeled "The Story of Creation"
- to begin playing.

- To Install
- Begin at the Windows Program Manager to install the program. Place the
- CD into your CD-ROM drive. Choose "Run" under the "File" menu. Type
- D:\SETUP.EXE in the line labeled Command Line. (If your CD-ROM drive
- uses a letter other than D, substitute that letter for D.) Click OK to
- begin the installation. Follow the on-screen instructions to install
- The Story of Creation.

- To Play
- A program group titled Little Ark Interactive will be created in the
- Windows Program Manager and will contain an icon labeled "The Story of
- Creation". Double-click this icon to begin playing.

- Windows95 - Autoplay Instructions

- To Install
- Start at the Windows 95 desktop to install the program. Place the CD
- into your CD-ROM drive. The The Story of Creation Startup window will
- appear. Click on the Install button and follow the on-screen
- instructions to install the program.

- To Play
- After successfully installing the program, click the Run button on the
- Startup window to start the program. The Startup window will appear
- each time the CD is inserted into the CD-ROM drive. If you prefer to
- not see this screen and automatically launch The Story of Creation,
- click on the check box at the bottom of the Startup window marked
- "Show window next time you insert the CD" so that the check mark is
- removed. The next time the CD is inserted into the CD-ROM drive, The
- Story of Creation will automatically launch. (Note: This autoplay
- feature is not available if The Story of Creation Startup window does
- not automatically appear the first time the CD is inserted.)

- Windows 95 - Manual Instructions

- To Install
- If the Little Ark Interactive Startup window does not appear
- automatically on screen, you can install the program manually by
- starting at the Windows 95 desktop. Click on the Start button on the
- task bar and choose Run. Type D:\SETUP.EXE in the line labeled Open.
- (If your CD-ROM drive uses a letter other than D, substitute that
- letter for D.) Click OK to begin the installation. Follow the
- on-screen instructions to install The Story of Creation.

- To Play
- After successfully installing the program, begin at the Windows 95
- desktop. Click on the Start button and select Programs, and then Little
- Ark Interactive. Click the "The Story of Creation" menu item to begin
- playing.

- Select a Mode
-
- READ The Story
- When you make this selection, your cursor will disappear as you see the
- book unfold page by page. Your cursor will only reappear when you
- return to the main selection screen after the book is finished. You
- can also use the space bar on your keyboard to exit the book. Use the
- right or left arrow key on your keyboard to skip ahead or see an
- earlier page in the book. You can switch to "Explore the Story" mode
- by pressing "P" on your keyboard.

- EXPLORE the Story
- When you click on this button, you'll be able to start exploring each
- page after its introduction. Use the mouse to select different items
- you would like to see come to life on the screen. There are many
- hidden buttons on every page, so be sure to search carefully before
- turning each page. For example, be sure to click on all areas of the
- page even when there are not objects present. You can switch to "Read
- The Story" mode while reading the book by pressing "R" on your
- keyboard.

- Options
- Clicking on this button takes you to the options page where you can go
- directly to any page in the book in interactive ("Explore the Story")
- mode. You cannot jump into the story in passive ("Read The Story")
- mode. To go directly to a page, click the forward and backward arrows
- until you see the page number you want. Then click "OK" to go to that
- page. To see a preview of upcoming Little Ark Interactive products,
- click on the "Preview" button.

- Turning Pages
- To turn pages, click the arrows pointing right or left, located in the
- lower right and left corners of the screen, or press the right or left
- arrow on your keyboard. To return to the main selection screen, click
- on the page number at the bottom of each screen, or press the space
- bar.

- Shortcuts
- In either mode of play, you can press the command-M combination to
- display or hide the menu bar, which will be hidden when play begins.
- To go directly to the Options Page from anywhere in the book use the
- command-B combination. Press the space bar from anywhere in the story
- to go directly to the main selection screen. You can use the command
- and the up or down arrow to adjust your computer's volume level. Press
- "R" for "Read The Story" and "P" for "Explore the Story" on your
- keyboard to change from one mode to the other. Press command-Q
- combination from anywhere in the story to quit.

- Memory
- Little Ark Interactive products are designed to use 4.5MB of memory in
- your Macintosh. You may not have that much memory available because of
- Control Panels or Extensions that are enabled. In order to play, you
- may need to disable some Control Panels or Extensions and restart your
- computer to regain the memory needed.

- Screen Savers
- If your computer has a software screen saver enabled it might interrupt
- Little Ark Interactive products, especially during the "Read The Story"
- mode. Be sure to disable your screen saver software while using this
- Living Book to avoid its interruption.

- Virtual Memory
- Be sure to turn off virtual memory, close other windows and turn off
- file sharing to allow Little Ark Interactive products to perform at
- their intended level. Little Ark Interactive products are 32-bit clean.

- Launcher and At Ease Users
- Launcher and At Ease (both products by Apple) are designed to provide
- a simplified interface for you and your child. If Launcher or At Ease
- programs are enabled when you try to use Little Ark Interactive
- products, they may cause performance or sound problems. We recommend
- that you turn off Launcher or At Ease before using Little Ark
- Interactive products. It is possible to stop Launcher and At Ease
- from automatically starting up each time you start your computer by
- dragging them out of the folder "StartUp Items" in your system folder.

- more detailed technical information.

- Video Boards
- Some accelerated video boards with special device drivers or boards
- made by specific manufacturers cause sporadic problems with Little Ark
- Interactive products. We suggest you use the 640 x 480, 256 color
- device driver designed for your video board. See your Windows manual
- or the Troubleshooting Guide supplied with this product for
- information on changing video drivers and other tips.

- Little Ark Interactive Limited 90-Day Warranty
- Little Ark Interactive guarantees for a period of ninety (90) days
- following the original retail purchase of this copy of The Story of
- Creation that the program is free from substantial errors or defects
- that will materially interfere with the operation of the program as
- described in the enclosed user documentation. This policy applies to
- the initial purchaser only. If you believe you have found any error
- or defect in the program during the warranty period, call Little Ark
- Interactive Technical Support Department at 415/382-7818 from Monday
- through Thursday between the hours of 6 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., and Friday
- from 6 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., Pacific Time. Little Ark Interactive
- technical personnel will attempt to help you correct or avoid the
- problem. If any error or defect cannot be corrected or reasonably
- avoided, Little Ark Interactive will inform you how to obtain a
- corrected program disc (or, at Little Ark Interactive's option, may
- authorize a refund of your purchase price). This warranty
- gives you specific legal rights, and you may have additional rights
- which vary from state to state.

- Disc Replacement Policy
- If any disc supplied with this product fails within ninety (90) days
- of purchase for any reason other than accident or misuse, please return
- the defective disc together with a dated proof of purchase to Little
- Ark Interactive, c/o Software-Direct", P.O. Box 6144, Novato, CA
- 94948-6144, for a free replacement. This policy applies to the original
- purchaser only.

- Little Ark Interactive will replace program discs damaged for any
- reason, whether during or after the ninety (90) day free replacement
- period, for a minimal fee. For more information, please contact Little
- Ark Interactive Customer Service at 415/382-7818. This policy will be
- followed as long as the program is still manufactured by Little Ark
- Interactive.

- Limitations on Warranty
- Unauthorized representations: Little Ark Interactive warrants only that
- the program will perform as described in the user documentation. No
- other advertising, description or representation, whether made by a
- Little Ark Interactive dealer, distributor, agent or employee, shall be
- binding upon Little Ark Interactive or shall change the terms of this
- warranty.

- Implied warranties limited: Except as stated above, Little Ark
- Interactive makes no other warranty, express or implied, regarding
- this product. Little Ark Interactive disclaims any warranty that the
- software is fit for a particular purpose, and any implied warranty of
- merchantability shall be limited to the ninety (90) day duration of
- this limited express warranty and is otherwise expressly and
- specifically disclaimed. Some states do not allow limitations on how
- long an implied warranty lasts, so the above limitation may not apply
- to you.

- No consequential damages: Little Ark Interactive shall not be
- liable for special, incidental, consequential or other damages, even if
- Little Ark Interactive is advised of or aware of the possibility of
- such damages. This means that Little Ark Interactive shall not be
- responsible or liable for lost profits or revenues, or for damages or
- costs incurred as a result of loss of time, data or use of the
- software, or from any other cause except the actual cost of the
- product. In no event shall Little Ark Interactive's liability exceed
- the purchase price of this product. Some states do not allow the
- exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so the
- above limitation or exclusion may not apply to you. You are entitled
- to use this product for your own use, but may not sell or transfer
- reproductions of the software or manual to other parties in any way,
- nor rent or lease the product to others without the prior written
- permission of Little Ark Interactive. You may use one copy of the
- product on a single terminal connected to a single computer. You may
- not network the product or otherwise use it on more than one computer
